Bryson DeChambeau Wins Shriners Hospitals for Children Open
Bryson DeChambeau’s late heroics secured the victory at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. DeChambeau shot an impressive 21-under 263 for the week at TPC Summerlin, earning his 5th PGA Tour victory to date.
DeChambeau was one shot behind the defending champion Patrick Cantlay at the par-5 16th in the final round and drained a 57-foot eagle putt to take the solo lead.
Cantlay bogeyed the 17th and fell two shots behind while making a birdie at the 18th just to stay alive. That same hole, DeChambeau made a two-putt par to close out a 5-under 66, a 21-under 263 total and a one shot victory.
“I was coming out here to try and kick rust off and was able to play some good golf,” DeChambeau said. “I’m happy to get it done.”
DeChambeau’s clutch eagle putt would prove to be the difference in the end. After having zero PGA Tour victories 16 months ago, DeChambeau now has five. The “Mad Scientist” has had a terrific year and has shown he can be a star on the PGA Tour.
“I thought I had it in me, but I didn’t know if I could do it,” DeChambeau said of his success this year. “Last year I saw signs of something great. I didn’t know where it would lead me. But I think it led me in the right direction.”
DeChambeau utilizes methods many would call unorthodox, but the numbers don’t lie. From the Hogan cap to the one length iron’s, DeChambeau isn’t afraid to break the mold. Bryson’s Cobra clubs have been a staple in his bag and a key to his success.
The Cobra KING F9 SPEEDBACK Driver made its debut in Bryson’s bag over the weekend. As usual, he was dressed head to toe in PUMA Golf apparel.
The revolutionary IGNITE PWRADAPT Leather shoes, PWRCOOL Refraction Polo and the TOUR Driver Cap all gave Bryson a distinct and dapper look.
