Bryson DeChambeau wins the 2018 Memorial
Bryson DeChambeau wins the Memorial Tournament after edging out Byeong-Hun An and Kyle Stanley in a playoff.
The former SMU Mustang shot a third round 66, to take a one shot lead into the fourth round. DeChambeau held the lead until a three-putt bogey on the 18th hole, tying An and forcing a playoff.
In the fourth round, DeChambeau missed the green from the fairway on the extra hole and had to settle for par. His third time playing the 18th hole, he rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt beating Byeong-Hun An to win the Memorial Tournament. Bryson showed his poise and maturity throughout the weekend. As an NCAA Individual Champion in 2015, DeChambeau knows how to finish strong while under pressure.
This is just DeChambeau’s second professional victory and he was able to outclass a crowded leaderboard. Bryson finished tied #1 in strokes gained total and sand saves, #1 in scrambling and #5 in driving distance. These key stats are what proved to separate him from the rest of the pack.
DeChambeau has moved up to #4 in the FedExCup Standings as a result of his victory.
Bryson’s scientific approach to the game is something we at Game Like Training hope all golfers can incorporate into their practice. His use of biomechanics and analytics are what separates him from many on the PGA Tour.
“I mean, look, it’s more of a scientific way of playing the game,” said DeChambeau when asked about his philosophy. “I take averages and statistics to my heart, and then also I take biomechanics to my heart as well. That’s more importantly where I am going down, and trying to understand how everything in my body is working to create more and more consistency through impact.”
As always, Bryson was dressed in head-to-toe PUMA apparel and used a bag full of Cobra Clubs. The KING LTD Driver and his trademark KING Forged ONE Length Irons are just a few of the clubs he used to win the Memorial.
